An interesting ruin above the Jizera
At the northwestern end of Mladá Boleslav you will find an interesting ruin of the Michalovice castle above the Jizera valley. The ruins are famous for their „chipped“ tower. From the top of the tower is also quite a nice view of the surroundings
Michalovice
The starting point to the castle is the village of Michalovice, where you can get along one or the other narrow road, just a short distance behind the bridge over the Jizera (road 259 in the direction of Mšeno and Kokořínsko). There are only a few places in the village where you can park
Under the castle Michalovice
From the center of the village you climb quite steeply up the street and after a while you are already under the castle, from where there is the best view. After paying the entrance fee, you can continue up to the tower
Under the castle tower
The path on the left bypasses the ruins and ascends to the castle tower. You can get to it by stairs
Ascent to the tower
When climbing the tower, you will appreciate that there are not so many visitors, because the stone staircase is quite narrow and quite dark at the bottom.
Wall thickness
The castle tower is really sturdy, the wall is more than two meters thick, so you have to sneak up to the loophole
View from the castle tower
The view from the castle tower is mainly on the Jizera valley directly below the castle and then on the historical center of Mladá Boleslav
Farewell to the castle
The tour of the castle is relatively short, but if you have a way around, it is definitely worth a stop
