A castle with a huge bastion
Nizwa Castle is one of the most visited castles in Oman. If you are lucky, there will be a local celebration. There are also scenes from historical life in Oman. From the local monumental bastion there are beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains
Entrance to the inner castle
From the courtyard in the forecourt there are small doors to the inner castle. Defending doors with cannons is stylish rather than functional
Visit Nizwa Castle on International Remembrance Day
Coincidentally, we were here on the day of International Memorial Day. Admission was free and hosted a cultural program depicting traditional Omani culture
Views to the west and north
To the west and north there are unimaginable views of the local oasis surrounded by high mountains
Inside the bastion
The dominant feature of the whole castle is a huge bastion. It also looks interesting from the inside. You can get to the gallery by several stairs. In the local heat, it can take you to climb everything
Views to the east
The views to the east are more interesting – you will have other monuments such as a mosque, souq or the old city
Picturesque corners of the castle
It would be interesting to see what the Omani castles looked like before they were renovated. Today, almost all of them are like new
Opposite the bastion
Bastion from the roof of the castle
A fairy tale of a thousand and one nights
The castle has quite successful historical exhibitions and demonstrations of crafts
Castle from outside
The castle is definitely worth a visit, although it did not get into our subjective TOP 3 Omani castles
