The Ottoman castle in Aqaba is probably its largest historical monument, although not much of it has survived to this day. He went down in history in July 1916, when he was conquered by the Arabs with the help of the famous Lawrence of Arabia and the Turks were defeated here. It is just a short walk from the famous Jordanian flagpole and the Aqaba Archaeological Museum.
