Amazing sunsets and sunrises
The main advantage of sleeping in Wadi Rum is the possibility to see an amazing sunset and sunrise, when the surrounding mesas and rocks turn to orange and ore colors. It is ideal to arrange transport at this time somewhere to the middle of the plains between the mountains to have a wide view and not to be disturbed by a perpendicular mountain wall. In addition, you can have a wonderful dinner and sleep in modernized Bedouin camp here.
Bedouin tent
Every small family travel agency in Wadi Rum have an own camp consisting of only a few tents for sleeping and one dinner tent. Most of them are kilometers apart, so there will be only a few people together at dinner. Unfortunately, locals plan to build here some concrete camps, because tourists apparently require luxury. But wouldn´t it be bigger luxury to sleep once in a while in a simple tent and far away the civilization? It is also a pity that you are likely to be offered Nescafé or Pepsi or similar western articles in Bedouin village – traditional sweetened black tea would be more stylish. But after all the Bedouins are mainly making a living, so they do what tourists ask them. But it is a big shame that such a place does not adhere to its original spirit.
Camp under the mountain Khazali
Our camp was located under a steep few hundred meter high wall of Khazali mountain – rock landslide right next to it did not look very optimistic, but the surrounding views were awesome.
Mesa Um Ishrin
Massive mesa Um Ishrie rises in the distance. It separates the town of Wadi Rum from the neighboring desert valley.
Colored walls of Khazali
Khazali mountain shines at the graduating sunset as if it was gold plated. But you should move a little to get to the best outlook point.
Mountains in northwest
Scattered small campsites under the walls of surrounding mountains look like tiny dots.
Khazali in full glory
To see the entire mountain in all its glory, it is necessary to move nearly a kilometer from the steep walls of Khazali. Random passing jeep serves as a great benchmark for the size. Then follows just a dinner and looking forward to the views on the other side of the desert plains at sunrise.
El Qattar
Western horizon is dominated by the monumental mesa El Qattar in the morning.
Mesas at sunrise
Far more interesting mountain towers right next to it.
Jebel Rum and Um Ishrin
An interesting outlook is of an massive mesa Wadi Rum, where steep walls are replaced by gradual terrain and the top itself looks like the icing on the cake.
Desert romance
You have a chance to say final good bye to the mountain Khazali on the way back when finishing the trip in the desert of Wadi Rum.
The last view
Only the last view of the rock walls and the asphalt road in the village of Wadi Rum starts.
