La Paz is famous for its incredible location of a huge valley located right on the plateau of the Altiplano. Death road
Rough road from La Paz to Coroico
One of the most famous „death“ roads of the world leads from the capital of Bolivia La Paz to Coroico lying already in misty Yungas. Today, the vast majority of traffic leads along new asphalt road, which is less deadly. The old one has become perhaps the most popular destination of the trip offered today by travel agencies in La Paz – downhill bike „Camino de la Muerte“ from the pass Cumbre (4,660 m asl) up to Coroico (1,525 m asl). continue reading

El Choro trek

The most famous Bolivian trek leading along the old inca trail is El Choro. Within just a few days you pass several vegetation bands from Altiplano upland plateau, through the main Andean ridge overlooking the glacier-covered mountains, alpine meadows with scanty vegetation, misty Yungas to sultry jungle with hummingbirds flying around. Mountain Chacaltaya (5 363 m asl) extending only 25 kilometers from the capital city of Bolivia La Paz, is famous mainly by the only Bolivian ski resort with the highest located ski lift in the world that was once here. After the glacier finally dissolved, skiing is no longer possible here, but the place is definitely worth a half-day trip. First of all, you can enjoy beautiful views of Cordillera Real with six thousand high beautiful mountain Huayna Potosi in the foreground, or if you are just a „weekend“ tourist, you can easily overcome here the limit of five thousand meters above sea level. continue reading
Visit of Moon Valley
The power of erosion in full glory
At the very southern and bottom end of La Paz is an interesting area of weathered rock towers aptly named Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). The site itself is relatively small (located on an area of 400×200 meters) and so the visit takes about an hour.
