Lower Mustang – a wide valley of the Kali Gandaki river, squeezed on one side by the eight-thousander Dhaulagiri and on the other by the Annapurna mountains. It is not for nothing that this valley is said to be the deepest in the world. Here you will see interesting Buddhist culture in the form of distinctive villages and local monasteries – gomps. Of course, you can also enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Let's see what to visit here.

Thorong la pass

The highest place of Annapurna trek

Rating:
| Altitude: 5 416 m / 17 769 ft

Thorong la pass (Thorung la) (5 416 m asl) is probably the most famous pass throughout Nepal. It is said to be the highest „tourist“ place throughout the country, which is not correct. But the truth is that you can cross it in sandals if the weather is good, because the path over it is neither steep nor narrow and trade caravans from Tibet used to walk this way. But it certainly cannot be underestimated, because it had several times become a trap for tourists in a snow storm (see the recent disaster of October 14, 2014). continue reading

Kali Gandaki river

The river bisecting the Himalaya

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 800 m / 9 186 ft

The river Kali Gandaki belongs among the longest and most interesting Nepalese rivers. Most tourists wander along its trough during the western part of the trek around Annapurnas or in the Kingdom of Mustang. Interesting is the fact that its trough is about 5.5 kilometers below the surrounding eight thousand meters high peaks Dhalagiri and Annapurna 1. Therefore, it is counted among the world's deepest canyons. It flows into the much more famous Ganges. continue reading
