In Tibet you will find mainly two types of monuments – exhibition monasteries and fortified castles or their ruins. Often these buildings intertwine. The most important building is, of course, the impressive Potala Palace. The huge Kumbum Stupa is again an icon of the Palcho Monastery in Gyants.
