  • Air: The only direct air connection to the Islands is from Auckland, Los Angeles and Pape´ete to Rarotonga. Rarotonga is also very popular stopover destination.Everyday flights from Rarotonga to Aitutaki. It takes only 45 minutes. Nearly everyday flights from Rarotonga to ´Atiu and approximately weekly flights between Rarotonga and the rest of the Southern group. There are flights to islands in the Northern group approximately once a week, which take about 3 ½ hours and are expensive. Not all northern islands have airports as well.
  • Cargo ships travel to northern islands and stop sometimes at Aitutaki. But their departures are quite unpredictable due to weather conditions or breakdowns. But if you go with them, it can be cheaper that by air. It takes approximately a day to get from Rarotonga to other islands in the Southern group and 4 days to the Northern group.
