The easiest trip in Hruboskalsko
Three and a half kilometer long walk from Hrubá Skála to the castle Wallenstein (“Valdštejn”) is one the most typical hikes in Hruboskalsko. Thanks to a wide path leads here also a cycling trail and is comfortable also for families with strollers and small children. The most beautiful place is the outlook of The Band (“Kapela), from where you can see dozens of towers in the rock town. This trail is part of the long-distance walk through the Bohemian Paradise from Jičín to Turnov. You can either return back the same route, but it is better to do this classic circuit and walk back „inside“ the rock town.
Arboretum Bukovina
From the castle Hrubá Skála head along the red trail on a narrow road leading to the other attractions of the Bohemian Paradise – Vyskeř hill and Podtrosecké ponds. But be careful with the cars. After 200 meters you will fortunately turn from the road to the hiking trails signpost, here continue along the red trail. In a moment you will arrive at arboretum Bukovina (which is now freely accessible). Here you can admire several full-grown trees.
Statue from stone in Arboretum Bukovina
Apart from very high trees you will see here an interesting sculpture carved into the rest of the trunk of a fallen giant. Just behind the arboretum is a small garden pub.
Roadway in rock town
From arboretum rises the path through the forest along a wider roadway. The only interesting thing about this passage is the turning, thanks to which the adjoining rock must have been cut off.
The outlook of The Band (“Vyhlídka na Ka
Finally, walk up to the edge of the sandstone plateau and now awaits you one of the most beautiful views of the entire Hruboskalsko – Outlook of The Band (“Vyhlídka na Kapelu”). In front of you is a range of rock towers and before them one solitaire – Bandleader (“Kapelník”).
View of Bandleader (“Kapelník”).
Bandleader seems like to be really conducting the rest of the rock town.
The outlook at the Lion (“Vyhlídka u Lví
About half a kilometer away is another beautiful outlook – at the Lion (“Vyhlídka u Lvíčka“), where you have the entire massif of The Band (“Kapela”) right at your fingertips.
View of the Kozákov ridge
From The Lion is a nice view not only of The Band (“Kapela”), but also of rock Devil's hand (“Čertova ruka“) shrouded in myths and Kozákov ridge in the background.
Unofficial outlook
Just a bit further, at the interesting rock in the form of rock arch turns unmarked path to the edge of the rocky plateau. There is about 2.5 meters high cliff. From the cliffs is another, quite a nice view /simple climbing necessary/.
Wallenstein Castle (“Valdštejn”)
Another part of the journey rises slowly through the woods and up to the castle is now a little less interesting.
In the South pass (the highest point of this walk) turns blue tourist trail both to Kopic farm (nice folk architecture) and the rock engravings. It is an interesting side trip for those having more time (about 2 km and 1 hour back and forth).
From this intersection is after about one hundred meters a turning then long plain up to the castle Wallenstein (“Valdštejn”). Before you get to the castle, you'll pass another crossroads at Kavčin, from where continues the classic circuit around Hruboskalsko via Jan´s outlook (“Janova vyhlídka”) (if you are not going to the castle, so you can turn at the fenced tree nursery to the path that connects to this blue trail after a while. You will save by that a few hundred meters to the crossing of paths at Kavčin and back).
From the castle Wallenstein (“Valdštejn”) you can take the same route back, or along the road and yellow tourist trail descend towards Sedmihorky or Hrubá Skála (this route is not as interesting as blue tur. trail).
