Inca ruins and giant cacti
On the southern edge of Salar de Uyuni is a small village Atulcha. Tourists stop here mainly for the reason that there is one of several hotels del Sal, where they spend the night during Salar tour. However, there is one attraction that is worth visiting. Less than a kilometer higher through the valley is the old Inca village surrounded by giant several meters high cacti.

Most of the villages around salar looks kind of semi-abandoned – a few scattered cottages and a wasteland around.

On your way to the Inca village you will certainly meet a number of grazing semi-wild donkeys.
The way to the village of ghosts
The way from Atulcha to the Inca village is simple. You will slowly ascend through a wide valley. Inca ruins lies at the foot of the hills surrounding salar. It is 15–20 minutes’ walk from Altucha.

From the Inca village were left only the walls of the house /quite similar to those in Machu Picchu/ and the remains of the original fields in the slope of the mountain. And huge cacti tower all around.

According to the former fields and fences overgrown with cacti you can see that nobody lives here for a long time.

When returning from the walk in addition you can enjoy beautiful views of the immense Salar de Uyuni.
