A pleasant walk in the center of Canberry
The Molonglo River flows through the center of Canberry and forms a system of lakes. For visitors to Canberry, the Central Basin is the most important, because there are many local attractions nearby. You can combine a walk around this lake with a tour of the Australian Parliament and the War Memorial. The whole circuit is about 5 kilometers
Captain James Cook Memorial
There is a walking path around the whole lake. In the northern part it is called RG Menzies Walk. There is also a bike path leading around all the local lakes. The first attraction is a monument commemorating Captain Cook.
Canberra and Region Visitors Center
An important point on the walk is Regatta Point, where the Canberra and Region Visitors Center is located. Here it is possible to have a snack and also possibly rent a bike. In the background you can see the lookout mountain Mount Ainslie
National Carillon
On the eastern side of the lake you will find a small island of Aspen on which is a monumental national carillon
View of the Captain Cook Memorial Jet
Probably the biggest attraction on the lake is an artificially created geyser spraying to a height of more than a hundred meters
Anhinga rusty - Anhinga melanogaster
You will also find interesting birds here, such as Oriental darter
Black swan - Cygnus atratus
Or also black swans
