The river Waldbach lives in the deep shadow of the town of Hallstatt and its adjacent salt galleries. It is a very wild river with many waterfalls that cut into the landscape. The river is about 3 km long and flows at an altitude of 913 m. nm The hike can be started from Hallstatt, it is a hike for 3 hours or from the Salt Chamber also a hike for 3 hours. Just be careful which way you go. There is also a light ferrata. The advantage is that there are few visitors.

If we leave Hallstatt, it is best to return this way as well. The road to the waterfalls leads along an asphalt road. But I recommend going according to the map and meeting in time. Get out of the way and go around the river and enjoy its predation. This will lead to two large waterfalls, where there is a viewpoint. How to continue? There are two options to return from one of the paths and continue along the asphalt road to the mouth of the river, where another monumental waterfall awaits, or continue on a more difficult route, which is ferrata, but not so secure. It's just getting worse. After it we will get up and continue along the asphalt road to the left, where we will cross the bridge and get to the monumental waterfall and further to the estuary. The journey from the Salt Chamber is more convenient because we are at a higher altitude. Ideal to combine with a tour of the Salt Chamber, as we did. A steep ascent awaits us from the Chamber and then about 3.5 km along the contour and descent to the Waldbach river. But now be careful when to dodge. The signage pulls to the left along the red one over the footbridge, but this is the mentioned ferrata, so be careful, the descent this way is not entirely pleasant, but there are much much worse paths. Or ignore this sign to go to the bridge and here go to the monumental waterfall to the estuary and then descend and choose one of the routes, for example, just below the cable car at the bridge is a descent to the river Waldbach and here walk the river to the views of the waterfalls. It's worth seeing.

Road from the Salt Chamber

Such an environment is the way from the Salt Chamber, where everyone encounters other galleries

River ferocity

This may have been exacerbated by the fact that we appeared here during the floods.
