The Five Fingers lookout is one of the most sought after places in the Dachstein and Hallstatt area. It is possible to get here from the village of Obertraun by walking to the top of Krippenstein or by cable car, where it is possible to make an intermediate stop with the caves, which is discussed in another article. From the Krippenstein cable car station, it's about a 30-minute leisurely walk to the Five Fingers viewpoint. It is at an altitude of 2,035 meters above sea level and above an abyss 400 meters deep. From here there is a wonderful view of Lake Hallstatt, reminiscent of the fjords in Norway.

The Five Fingers lookout is one of the most sought after places in the Dachstein and Hallstatt area. It is possible to get here from the village of Obertrauna by walking to the top of Krippenstein or by cable car, where there is an option to make a stop with the caves, which is discussed in another article. From the Krippenstein cable car station, where it is also possible to stay at the Lodge am Krippenstein , it is about a 30-minute leisurely walk to the Five Fingers viewpoint. It is at an altitude of 2,035 meters above sea level and above a 400-meter-deep chasm. From here there is a wonderful view of Lake Hallstatt, reminiscent of the fjords in Norway. In bad weather, I recommend staying at the lookout for a longer time, because the weather here is very changeable and the view can open up at any time. For those who go back on their own, which is possible. There are two ways here. They took the Cape on the way towards Gjaidalm back to Obertraun. But the road is very uncomfortable with its terrain and half of the route is a ski slope. Although it offers a beautiful view of the Dachstein and Krippenstein from below, it should be considered. Personally, I would never take this route again and either try to go down the other route to the middle point from where you go to the caves or pay extra for the way back, which is a good tip for those who are going here for the weekend.

Five Fingers Lookout

So this is how it looks here. You have to wait with more tourists. But the surroundings also offer natural views, so everyone can find time to be alone here.

Challenging descent

The descent to the parking lot is very unpleasant. The whole time you walk in rocky terrain
