Lakes and three scenic peaks

The Salt Chamber is rightly one of the most beautiful areas in Austria. Here you will find beautiful lakes and massive limestone peaks towering above them. As a tip for a beautiful extended weekend, you need to climb the three beautiful lookout hills Hoher Sarstein, Schafberg and Sparberg combined with swimming in the lakes.
Day 1 - Ascent to Schafberg
Schafberg is an amazing hill on the border of three lakes Wolfgangsee, Attersee and Mondsee. There are many hiking trails, but also a train. It only depends on you what you choose. When hiking, expect a good elevation gain
Ascent to Schafberg
Spring ascent with overnight stay on top
Schafberg is a 1780 meter high mountain, forming a significant landmark over Lake Wolfgagngsee. At the beginning of May, there is still relative calm before the season begins. The top is easily accessible except for one ferrata, but it is necessary to take into account a larger elevation. There are several paths up, from St. Gilgen, Lake Atersee and three from the village of St. Wolfgang and for those who like the railway, cogwheel rides during the season to the top, where you will be welcomed in a mountain hut. continue reading
Day 2 - Ascent to Sparberg
The next day, move south from Lake Wolfgangse and head to Sparberg. You can also see yesterday's Schafberg hill from it
Ascent to Sparberg
Have Wolfgangsee in the palm of your hand
Mount Sparberg (1,502 m above sea level) is not exactly the highest compared to the surrounding peaks in the area of Lake Wolfgangsee, for that one has views of the whole region and I dare say that it is one of the most beautiful. They are especially illustrated by the colors of the lake, which is just below the top. continue reading
Day 3 - Ascent to Hoher Sarstein
We will end the extended weekend with the third ascent, this time to Hoher Sarstein at Lake Hallstätter see with views of the famous Dachstein
Ascent to Hoher Sarstein
View of the Dachstein
The hill that stretches over the beautiful Lake Hallstättersee and from its top is a great view of the glacier covered Dachstein. The ascent to it takes about three hours. During the ascent, we can observe the already mentioned Hallstatt Lake from a bird's eye view, which unfortunately is not visible from the top. continue reading
