Mountain jewel
At the end of the twenty-kilometer long valley lies between the mountains very picturesque town Abyaneh. It is famous not only for its beautiful location and red houses, but also for different culture and local customs. Most local houses have beautiful wood carved doors. It is advisable to be here in the morning before numerous souvenirs stalls open. Before tourists from more distant towns such as Esfahan arrive, it looks here more truthful. At the entrance to the town you can obtain a map with marked most interesting buildings in the town.
Alleys in Abyaneh
You can set out to explore the interesting streets of Abyaneh. The town is built on a slope resembling the floors and the main streets lead along the contour line.
Houses in Abyaneh
All houses in the town are red due to color of local clay. Old ladies wear local costumes, which are different from those in the rest of the country.
View of the mountains
To the south of Abyaneh are mountain ranges higher than three thousand meters above sea level. If you set out here for a trip, you will probably not meet a living soul for the whole day.
Nice place to live
The entire oasis contrasts to the surrounding arid landscape. Moreover, there is quite pleasant weather even in an extremely Iranian hot summer, thanks to the higher altitude and shade from the trees.
Half-ruined houses
Unfortunately, the heyday is long gone for relatively many local houses and they gradually fall into disrepair. You will also see a lot of old people in the streets.
Pergollas in the streets
There are pergolas in some places, which bring additional shade to the streets. Well known are also local door to the houses, often beautifully carved.
Life-giving oasis
Below the town are situated fields and all greenery. But the houses are somehow poor here.
