One of the most popular trips on the island of Lesbos is to its arid northwest. Outside the interesting landscape, you will visit the unique Petrified Forest, the oldest monastery on the island of Moni Ypsilou built on top of the former volcano Ordymnos and bathe on the beautiful beaches of Skala Eresou and Sigri, where there are also castle ruins. It's a very nice, colorful trip, but you just have something to do from morning to evening.

In the morning on a trip through the northwest of the island

If you are staying in Anaxos, Petra or Molyvos, ie where most tourists, you will be about 35 kilometers on a mountain road with lots of curves before you reach the village of Antissa, with an example of a typical historic square where this circuit begins. Follow the exit to the monastery of Moni Ypsilou from where there is a beautiful view of the whole area. The most demanding part of the trip follows, a tour of the Petrified Forest, where there is no shade and early in the morning there is a lot of warmth. Then you will descend to Sigri, where the first swim in the sea awaits you. As part of a tour of the town, you can also have lunch at one of the local taverns.

Afternoon on a trip through the northwest of the island

In the afternoon go to the Rock of Eresos, you have two options. The more interesting one leads from Sigri along a gravel road along the coast (but count on the fact that it is more than 15 km through the desert), or you will return to the crossroads at Antissa and drive all the way on the asphalt. In the Eresoss Rock you can have a pleasant afternoon on the beach or take another trip and climb to the ruins above the city.
