One of the most famous prisons in the Czech Republic

Getting to Valdice is not exactly what everyone wants. Some of the worst offenders in the Czech Republic live in the local prison. See it from the outside, but it's worth a short stop
Entrance to the prison
The center of the town of Valdice is náměstí Míru, whose entire eastern side is occupied by the prison, or its historical part – the Kartouzy monastery with a dominant in the form of the majestic building of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Watchtower
We will start the walk at the entrance to the prison with a view of the monument to political prisoners

Monument to political prisoners in Valdice
The monument to political prisoners in Valdice is quite rough. That there would be such an indication of what would happen if you wanted to escape?

Prison as a fortress
After less than two hundred meters of walking, you are on the corner of the prison. From here, the barbed wire walls look quite impressive.

Prisons on the other side
Following the dirt road, we can continue along the prison until we reach the construction of the Jičín or Valdice bypass. From here there is an interesting view from the other side. The Zebín hill can be seen in the background

Valdice pond
You can go back the same way, or if you want to take a longer walk you can continue on the bypass under construction (probably it will be a nice option only until it becomes operational) until you reach the farm next to the small Valdice pond

Way back
From the pond there is a purpose-built road to the main road and then it is a short walk to the center, where we started
