A trip to the most fabulous castle in the world.
Neuschwanstein Castle is considered by many to be the most famous and beautiful castle in the world. No wonder Walt Disney was inspired by this Bavarian gem (especially thanks to its fabulous appearance).
Parking
Immediately upon arrival at the parking lot at Hohenschwangau, we were dazzled by the view of the castle surrounded by a forest beautifully tuned to the autumn colors. In the restaurant by the parking lot, we quickly peeled off one of the turnstiles (very longed for after a long journey) and set off, as the sunset was approaching.
View from the Marienbrücke bridge
One of the most beautiful views of Neuschwanstein Castle is from the Marienbrücke bridge.
Road from the parking lot
The shortest way to this bridge leads directly through the forest, which is definitely a better choice than going along the road with other tourists.
Pöllatfall waterfall
Directly below the bridge is about 30 meters high waterfall Pöllatfall.
Prospects
From the other side of the bridge, the path climbs steeper along the ridge and opens up many other views of the surrounding countryside. It was getting dark soon, so we didn't go too high and decided to come back and leave the prospects for the next day.
Day two
We set off in the morning and headed again first to the Marienbrücke bridge.
Morning views
The weather was good and Lake Alpsee, surrounded by high mountains, looked breathtaking in the morning light.
Neuschwanstein
Neuschwanstein Castle is certainly not, as God knows, a historic building, as it might seem at first glance. On the contrary, it is a modern building from the end of the 19th century.
Neuschwanstein
The castle was built by King Louis II, a geeky king. Bavarian.
Neuschwanstein
The castle is beautiful nearby. However, since 2013, repairs have been underway here and some parts can be surrounded by scaffolding.
Pöllatfall waterfall
Directly from the castle, the road leads to the Marienbrücke bridge and also the footpath down to the view of the waterfall.
Pöllat Stream
We chose the way back around – along the path leading along the Pöllat stream.
Alpsee
There are several lakes near the parking lot. One of them is the Alpsee lake, which is also worth a visit.
Hohenschwangau Castle
Another local attraction is Hohenschwangau Castle, which we omitted due to time constraints.
