Monastery in the countryside with the tomb of the island's patron saint

About 2 km south of Skopelos Town, on a hillside amidst lush greenery, lies the important monastery of Agios Riginos. The stone monastery, in its style and location, resembles a castle. Every year on February 25, this monastery is the destination of thousands of pilgrims from Skopelos and the surrounding islands who worship Saint Riginos.
Beautiful monastery
This beautiful Byzantine-style monastery is located in lush greenery. It was built in 1728 and newly renovated in 1960. The monastery has monastic cells on the north side, there is also a fountain and a small souvenir shop.

Tomb of a saint
The monastery is dedicated to a beloved saint, Bishop Rigin, who became the patron saint of the entire island. Inside, his remains, said to date back to the 4th century, rest.

The monastery is open to the public during the summer season, usually from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
