Mount ** Segla ** belongs together with the jagged ridge „Okshornan“: [https://www.gigaplaces.com/…k-okshornan/] to the most iconic places on the island „Senja“: [https://www.gigaplaces.com/ oblast-senja /] and without exaggeration it can be said that even the best in the whole of Norway. As this mountain is not as well known as other Norwegian attractions (** Preikestolen **, ** Trolltunga **), you will not meet too many tourists here.

Segla from Mount Hesten

The ** Segla ** mountain is the most beautiful and most famous view from the side mountain ** Hesten **, which is even a little easier to climb than the Segla itself.

The village of Fjordgård

The trail starts in the small but beautiful village of ** Fjordgård **, which is full of colorful houses. Specifically, two hiking trails lead from here. The first leads from the edge of the village directly to the top of the Segla, the second leads from the middle of the village – and we set out.

Initial climb

Practically from the very beginning, the trail climbs the hill and there are occasional wetlands. However, they are covered with a wooden footbridge and the path is not very difficult. Mount Hesten has an altitude of only 556 m and although it is practically from sea level, it should be handled by even average individuals. After only a few dozen meters, the landscape begins to open and a beautiful view of the mountains on the other side of the fjord appears.

Around Segla Mountain

At first, the Segla mountain looks like a large round rock massif, but as soon as we start to climb higher and go around it from the right, it starts to narrow rapidly.

In the saddle

In the middle of the road, the terrain changes to almost rocky and becomes steeper. A winding path leads us to the saddle below Mount Hesten, where the views to the north open.

At the top

The road splits from the saddle. We head left to the top of Hesten. There are only a few meters left, but the road is relatively steep and rocky, so good shoes are a must. The summit itself ends with an almost vertical cliff and the views in all directions are breathtaking.

At the top - view of the Segla

In particular, the view of the iconic mountain ** Segla ** or the highest peak of the island of Senja – ** Breidtinden **.

Ascent to the next peak Stavlitippen

After descending back to the saddle, we head to the second turn, leading to the next peak – ** Stavlitippen **.

Views of Fjordgård and Husøy

Despite the lower height of the Stavlitippen peak, the ascent is more difficult than the one at Hesten. The well-trodden path narrows upwards – probably due to rocky places, which must not be easily overcome, so many visitors give up the ascent to this peak. It is a pity, because the views from it are completely different, including the view from the height of ** Fjordgård ** and the island village ** Husøy **.

Way back

The way down is no longer very difficult, perhaps only the first stony section will give your feet a little time. Overall, however, it can be said that due to the diverse views in all directions and a relatively small elevation gain, it is the most beautiful, easily accessible hike on the island of ** Senja ** – and especially there are no crowds of tourists.

View from a distance

From the other side of the fjord, Segla looks like a big canine sticking up straight from the sea. The vertical cliffs from the side Hesten hill are also visible from here.
