Taxis in KTM run for an average of Rs 400–500, but when a taxi driver sleeps badly or buses strike, prices double. Then you need to use a tough bargaining tactic. The buses then cost around Rs 50. (eg to Dhulikhel – 30km from KTM, 2h by bus)

Local buses are very cheap, but time consuming. As far as safety is concerned, all that remains is to trust the driver, because the technical condition of the vehicles is very often completely unsatisfactory and they drive beyond limits.
