Town Palenque is a very popular stop for all travelers over Mexico, mainly thanks to sites lying in its surroundings. In one day you can visit breathtaking Mayan ruins lying on the edge of the forest, drive through the local mountainous landscape to breathtaking blue cascade Aqua Azul and finish the trip by visiting a nice waterfall with Misol-ha a little cave.

Ancient Mayan town of Palenque is nestled in the foothills of Chiapas mountains and is surrounded by the remains of virgin forest. Palenque competes with its Guatemalan rival Tikal for the post of the most beautiful Mayan ruins. Most visitors agree that local buildings are perhaps a little nicer, but there are crowds of tourists, which takes away from the atmosphere a little. Anyway, Palenque should certainly be the „mandatory“ stop your journey around Mexico. Mexico's most famous waterfalls are situated in the green hilly landscape of the state Chiapas. Although it is only 64 km from Palenque, an important transfer point and a tourist magnet, the way here can take quite a long time. Waterfall famous for scenes in the movie Predator lying only about 20 km from the town of Palenque belong among the most beautiful ones in Mexico, although it is a bit overshadowed by the more interesting water cascades Aqua Azul a little bit further.
