Interesting surroundings of Lednice Castle
Lednice Castle is surrounded not only by an extensive landscaped park with romantic buildings, but also a massive castle greenhouse and a large, beautifully maintained French garden adjoin it from the east and southeast.
Castle greenhouse
The castle greenhouse, built in 1843–1845, was extremely modern for its time thanks to the use of a structure made of steel, cast iron and glass. The self-supporting structure is 92 meters long, 13 meters wide and 7.5 meters high. The cast steel columns of the structure imitate bamboo trunks, into which panes of glass are fitted
Tropical and subtropical plants
The oldest orangery still in Lednice dates back to 1642 and mainly citrus, fig and olive trees were grown there. The current arrangement of the greenhouse with a number of tropical and subtropical plants dates from 1998–2002 and imitates the situation in 1930. Admission is charged.
Castle Garden
The French garden adjoins the castle to the southeast and, in addition to strictly maintained flower beds, it also houses classicist allegorical sculptures and a Venetian fountain.
Groomed shrubs and flower beds
There are a number of flower beds around the well-maintained paths, and on the sides are allegorical sculptures depicting construction and art. At the center of the garden is a baroque fountain from 1635
