Classic hunting lodge
Less than two kilometers east of the Lednice castle, there is an interesting building on the edge of Dolní loky, on the way to Janův hrad. The Empire-style building with an open loggia on the first floor was built in 1806 and served as a gamekeeper's apartment, at the same time hunting for the manor's game was started and ended here.
Background for hunting
The building served as a game lodge with a hunter's apartment on the ground floor and at the same time as a base for parforce hunts in the park and its surroundings. The building served as a game lodge, and from the terrace it was possible for those who did not directly participate in the hunt to watch the hunts held in the meadow in front of the game lodge. The adjoining saloon, accessible through a French window, provided an occasional shelter for the participants of the hunt to serve refreshments. After the end of the princely hunts, the hunted game was sorted at the castle.
Interesting architecture
The rectangular building impresses with its columned facade defined by six Tuscan columns. In front of the residential part of the castle is a large open loggia supported by a ground floor arcade gallery. From the loggia, you enter an unusual octagonal hall through a large French window. Of the original one-story hunting lodge, only the front part with balustrades and portico has been completely preserved.
