A stately residence

This masterpiece of English Neo-Gothic architecture in the Czech Republic was built on the site of the original water-Gothic fortress and underwent a number of reconstructions. The current appearance of the castle dates from 1846–1858, when Prince Alois II. from Lichtenstein had Lednice rebuilt into a representative summer residence in the spirit of English Gothic. A number of important artists and architects participated in the construction and decoration.
