A beautiful classicist building between the ponds
Between the village of Lednice and the town of Valtice, on the bank of the Hlohovecký pond, there is a monumental classicist building built in 1826 – 1827. The castle with the surrounding park belongs to the Lednice-Valtice area, located on the territory of the former Liechtenstein estate. The land on which the castle was built originally belonged to Moravia, but around the time of construction, the land border between the Margrave of Moravia and the Archduchy of Lower Austria was moved to the center of the castle.
Really on the border
The castle is situated on the former border between Moravia and Austria, which existed here during the reign of Jan I of Liechtenstein. This is evidenced by the inscription on the front facade ""Zwischen Österreich und Mähren"
A hotel for the discerning
The entire building was completely renovated and reopened on 16/06/2018. Today, a hotel and restaurant for demanding clientele are operated in its premises.
Border stream
Right in the middle of the castle, the Hraniční stream flowed, which at one time formed the land border between the Margraviate of Moravia and the Archduchy of Lower Austria. The current form of the stream was created in 2018.
An important tree
This tree was planted in honor of the famous Lichtenstein family on the occasion of the 200-year anniversary of the construction of the Border Castle.
Fountain
The castle park is dominated by a fountain with a statue of Hygieia. The Hraniční potok flows from the statue's vase, which once formed the border.
