Very nice stage of the trek around Annapurnas leads from Tal though the wild canyon over suspension bridges around lots of nice waterfalls up to Dharapani, where trekking routes around Annapurnas and Manaslu connect. It is one of the most beautiful river passages in the whole trek. Unfortunately, the numbers of passages are disturbed by building new road here.

Entry to the canyon

Close behind Tal ends the plain and peaceful flow of Marsyangdi river and a nice canyon starts, where the river flows noticeably faster.

The way through the canyon

After about a kilometer of the way through the canyon with beautiful views of the river you come to a large bridge. From here you rise high above the river through the winding paths to walk around a large landslide. Along the way you often miss huge caravans of horses laden with cargo.

Horses caravan

One of the most beautiful views in this whole stage is from the place above the landslide, where you can see the entire suspension bridge in a nice panoramic perspective.

Waterfall across the path

The path then leads only along the west side of the river high above the water and in two places is sprayed by waterfalls from the smaller side rivers – here for example from Machhi Khola.

Beautiful view of the canyon

There are a great variety of views from the path – nameless four thousand high hills can be seen on the horizon.

Power of nature

You may wonder where the trees can live – like here on top of a rock.

Bridge to Karte (Khotro)

After 2,5 hours' walk from Tal you come to the next big suspension bridge leading to the village of Karte.

Horsetail

Mainly due to heavy horses, there is often a small traffic jam on the bridge. It is only half a kilometer on foot from Karte to Dharepani
