To narrow streets of Ghemi to see local
Mustang trek2: The next day lasting stage of Mustang trek „pushes us a little“ to the maximum height of 4,020 meters above sea level. Wavy terrain with two passes leads to the town of Ghemi, in which we have enough time in the afternoon for an interesting research on the life of local people in the narrow streets of old houses and buildings.
Canyon Kali Gandaki
It is the monsoon season and it is visible in the morning sky. It is indeed photographically attractive, but also promises rain showers. We ascent into the pass Syangboche La (3 850 m asl ). The view of the landscape of Upper Mustang opens. At the bottom of a deep notch is also visible Kali Gandaki river.
Chorten
We will pass soon behind the pass the typical building for this region – chorten – in Tibetan box for relics. These buildings are a symbol of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism. They are located in the area both individually or in groups. It is appropriate to bypass it in a clockwise direction, i.e. from the left.
At the top of the pass
The path then rises to a small settlement Jhaite and we then slowly ascent to the pass Nyi La at an altitude of 4,020 m asl. Strong gusty winds make all prayer flags fluttering. They are, according to local custom, installed just at the windy places. There are different prayers and mantras on them.
Rock formations
The landscape is sculpted by deep cuts and eroded rock formations. But even in such an environment are the local residents able to take advantage of streams and rivers to irrigate fields otherwise vulnerable to this harsh nature.
Guardian
After the final descent we get quite early in the afternoon to the destination of today's stage – a small town Ghemi. At the entrance there is a nice chorten, which is carefully guarded by horned guardian.
In the streets Ghemi
We leave our things in the lodge and set out to explore the narrow streets. It is extremely interesting to us to watch the locals and their activities. It's just sometimes hard to find the right approach, which will satisfy our curiosity while respecting the privacy of the local people.
Boys
Children are the same everywhere, especially curious when they see a stranger. Guys were really interested in us thoroughly.
Prayer wheels
We walk in the streets of Ghemi and see the wall of prayer wheels – another symbol of Buddhism. There are a variety of Buddhist symbols and mantras on them. In accordance with local custom, we pass the wall from the left and gradually spin the wheels in the clockwise direction.
View from Ghemi
We're going back to our house. From the roof there is a magnificent view to the south to the distant peaks of Himalayan giants.
