Walk to the massive of Nevado Santa Cruz
AlpamayoBC trek 2: The second day´s walk will test your acclimatization to high altitudes, because campground located by the lagoon Cullicocha is at an altitude of 4 620 meters asl making it the highest located overnight stay on the trek right at the beginning. For this reason, this trek should not be undertaken by not acclimatized tourists! Along the way you can expect the final views of the opposite massif of Cordillera Negra, an interesting view deep into the canyon with lagoon Yanacocha and a beautiful view of the massif of Santa Cruz. On the way, there is also turning to the lagoon Yuraccocha, which is a great, but difficult and long side trip.

If you slept in Hualcayan, then awaits you already in the morning proper trekking warm-up in the form of an altitude kilometer meandering up. If you have a little "time ", you are in a while at a nice outlook point of the opposite Cordillera Negra.

You can also enjoy beautiful view of the cultivated rocky promontory of Hualcayan.
Camp de los Cedros
Just a bit further is very pleasant camping place.
Nevado Milluacocha
On the horizon will peek at you the westernmost glaciated peak (5 195 m asl) of massif of Milluacocha.
View of the canyon at crossroads
Just a short walk at the crossroads at approx. 4 428 m asl is a nice view of the wild canyon. From there you can continue directly to the destination of you journey to the camp at the lagoon Cullicocha or undertake a very nice side trip to the lagoon Yuraccocha directly below the massif of Nevado Santa Cruz.
Former icefall
The way from the crossroads continue rising through the slopes of the mountains and after a while appear almost three hundred meters high wall falling from lagoon to lagoon Cullicocha to the lagoon Azulcocha. There must have been a beautiful icefall once.
Nevado Milluacocha
Gradually opens also the view to another top of large massif of Milluacocha.
The path along the smoothed rocks
The final ascent leads directly above the former icefall. All around are the rocks smoothed by the ice.
Lagoon Cullicocha
Finally, you are at the destination of this difficult stage (especially if you've set out for a side trip to the lagoon Yuraccocha). The surroundings of lagoon Cullicocha (4 620m asl) is charming, especially at sunset when the surrounding glacier-covered mountains turn red. But only in good weather. Otherwise, there is very harsh, windy and it quite often not only rains, but also snows and hail fall.

Beautiful views are also of the opposite ridge of Cordillera Negra.
