Markha trek 7: Continuing the trek from Hankar to Umlung, the altitude will decrease below four thousand meters above sea level, local sun will burn and you will walk through the first sections with river silts. But you will be rewarded with the view of wild mountains on both banks of the river.

Markha river behind Hankar

From the fort Hankar falls the path again closer to the river and the altitude falls below four thousand meters above sea level.

Kang Yatse

It is perhaps not surprising to see again the local giant Kang Yatse.

Settlement behind Hankar

Just „behind the corner“ the valley broadens and there are a couple of houses by the fields + a few hundred meters behind this settlement also a tea refreshment tent. In addition, from this half-forgotten place turns quite significant side valley to the settlement Doltal (4 086 m asl), which is already complete end of the world.

Beautiful Markha valley

Behind Hankar the valley broadens nearly to three hundred meters. The surrounding jagged peaks make him very nice scenery.

Wild mountains

With decreasing altitude begins a bushy vegetation. Unfortunately also begin passages with several centimeters of fine river silt.

On the way to Umlung

You will walk about an hour through similar landscape with nice views to the side gorges. This stage is quite tiring, because there is quite hot most of the day thanks to the lower altitude.

View from the pass before Umlung

Suddenly, the river cuts heavily into the rock and there is no other choice but to climb quite steep spur. The effort is rewarded with stunning views on both sides of the valley. This view actually best characterizes the local landscape – arid rocky valley complemented with blue river snake and small fields by the houses you have just passed.

Umlung

From this small pass is visible the destination of this stage – miniature village Umlung (3 880 m asl). There is also a tea tent, so a pleasant possibility for refreshment.
