An alternative to the ridge route of Czech-Polish friendship from Spalon Stražnica is the descent to the beautiful Maly Staw lake and the subsequent march around perhaps the most famous rock formation in the Giant Mountains, Pielgrzyma. However, count on the fact that this variant has about 6.5 km and 400 meters of elevation gain, unlike 3 km and 100 meters on the ridge

At the Giant's Saddle

The ideal starting point for this hike is under Sněžka in Obří sedlo. We follow the red trail in the direction of Spalona Stražnica, where it is about 1.5 km

Turning to Strzecha Academic

From the crossroads, follow the blue sign down to the Strzech Akademick cottage. The ridge continues in the direction of the edge of the boiler, to which we will descend. Alternatively, you can walk here along the yellow sign from Luční bouda

View of Maly Staw

Finally we have Maly Staw in the palm of our hand. Feelings here in the spring are more Scandinavian than Polish

Hostel Samotnia

At Male Staw you will find perhaps the most beautiful cottage in the entire Giant Mountains – Schronisko Samotnia

Maly Staw

Maly Staw – a really beautiful place, ideal for longer relaxation, especially if you are here on a day when there are no crowds

An alternative way

From Malý Staw we continue to the ruins of schroniska im. Bronka Czecha. They normally walk the blue hiking trail, but in the spring it may be closed for bird protection reasons and you must continue on a parallel alternative route. Occasionally there is a nice view back

Observation meadow on Sněžka

In the ruins of Schroniska im. Bronka Czecha is a great crossroads. We continue along the yellow to another great attraction – Pielgrzymy. Along the way is a picturesque meadow with a beautiful view of Sněžka from the „other side“

Beautiful view of the ridge

The Giant Mountains from the Polish side look quite different from us

Pielgrzymy

It is only a kilometer from the crossroads to Pielgrzym, which is several beautiful rock formations

Beautiful rock town

The rock town is surprisingly quite large

Ascent to the ridge

From the rocks, the path climbs directly to the ridge – perpendicular to the contour. It is about 250 meters high before you ascend to Polední kamen. From here you can continue to Špindlerův Mlýn or back along the ridge
