From the foothill resort of Karpacz, crowds of tourists go mainly to the main Krkonoše ridge. From the city, you can also take simpler hikes to viewpoints from which you will have the Krkonoše Mountains in the palm of your hand. Probably the most beautiful such place is Karpatka (727 m), which you can easily reach by following the hiking trail from the dam.

The starting point of the hike is at the dam

The ideal starting point for climbing the Karpatka hill is one of the major local attractions – the Lomnická dam.

Mysterious rocks

The red hiking trail leads us into the forest and after only a hundred meters we meet the first mysterious rocks.

Climbing to the top

After about 400 meters of walking practically along the contour, the path bends straight up, and the most demanding section of this short and relatively very easy walk awaits you.

Karpatka (727 m)

After not even 80 meters in height, you are on the summit ridge. A little further away is the summit crag and the highest point of this circuit – Karpatka (727 m). There are no views from here, but don't panic, they are just a short distance away.

In front of the Karpatka viewpoint

On the summit ridge there are a number of different sized rocks. But we are slowly approaching a beautiful vantage point, which made it worthwhile to go on this walk.

A wonderful view of the Giant Mountains

From the lookout there is a beautiful semicircular view of the main Krkonoše ridge, including Sněžka.

Directly from the viewpoint, the path back towards the dam descends, this time marked in blue. Alternatively, you can continue to the Wang Church or the water park
