Beautiful views of the ponds
Krkonoše ridge crossing IV: the fourth stage of the Krkonoše crossing begins with a more boring climb past Špindlerůvky to Polední Kamen (Slonecznyk), from where the route is again interesting with a view of the beautiful lakes Maly and Velký staw and then to Sněžka itself
In the Silesian saddle
This part of the hike starts in the Silesian Saddle at a busy place near the Hotel Špindlerovka. For many tourists, it is also the beginning of the trip if they take the bus from Špindlerův Mlýn all the way to the saddle.
A view back to the Silesian Saddle
The path climbs quite steeply right from the beginning, so if you had lunch with a beer on Špindlerůvka, it is not an easy walk. Looking back, Vysoké Kolo and part of the Labské mine can be seen nicely
Under Malý Šišák
The path further traverses the slope below Malý Šišák and is not very pleasant due to the stones. This part is one of the less popular parts of the Krkonoše ridge. On the left, you can see the rounded Tępy Szczyt (1,387m above sea level) and the slightly higher Silver Ridge (1,490m above sea level).
View of Šišáky
The route continues to climb slowly and passes Malý Šišák, which unfortunately the official route does not lead to.
Views to Poland
From time to time you get deep views north to Poland. However, the landscape a kilometer below is mostly covered in haze. The dominant feature is the large Sosnowka dam.
Noon stones
After an hour's hike, you are finally at Polední kamen (1,420 m above sea level), only 70 meters below the Silver Ridge (1,490 m above sea level), which is also not reached by the official trail. The nicer part of this stage finally begins from the Polední kamen.
View of Sněžka
The continuation of the journey from Polední kamené is comfortable without major ascents and descents. You will still be moving at heights of around 1,400m above sea level. You will be accompanied by a beautiful view of Sněžka and other mountains on the main ridge.
View of Pielgrzymy
Perhaps the most famous rock formations of this part of the Krkonoše – Pielgrzymy dominate the views of Poland
View of Wielki Staw
The first really great view on this stage is the view of the wonderful lake Wielki Staw. Unfortunately, there is no official trail leading to it either
View of Mali Staw
The path continues around the deep cauldron of Malé Stav with beautiful views of the lake at its bottom. There is also a tourist hut and a trail here. A very beautiful passage on this stage
Above the Malé Staw boiler
The flat Studniční hora – the third highest mountain in the Czech Republic – can be seen from the observation path above the Malý Staw boiler.
Tourist highway
After a while, from the Malý Staw lookout point, you will reach the Rownia pod Sniezka junction (1,416m above sea level), where there is a turnoff to Luční bouda , where you can also stay or have refreshments. The road here becomes (for most of the day) a veritable highway crowded with tourists. The cable car leading to Kopa from Karpacz brings crowds here.
In the Giant's Saddle
After a comfortable journey of less than 2.5 hours from Špindlerovka, you arrive at Obří sedlo, from where there is a truly impressive view of Sněžka.
