There is no airport on the Greek island of Thassos, so you have to use the ferry from the town of Keramoti. Most visitors therefore fly to Kavala airport, from where it is only 12 kilometers to Keramoti (surprisingly closer than to the city of Kavala itself). The port is very busy and ferries leave practically one after the other during the season. There's plenty to see along the way, it's definitely not a boring cruise. In addition, flocks of seagulls fly here, wanting to eat something good.

Keramoti

Keramoti is a small town that lives off its ferry port. It lies in the national park of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, spread over the coastal plains in an otherwise mountainous landscape.

Seagulls on the ferry to Thassos

Finally, it sets sail and immediately a flock of seagulls surrounds the ferry, they want to get some delicacy – a biscuit, white bread, etc. It is the biggest attraction of this ferry.

Feeding seagulls

If you want to feed the seagulls with something, then definitely take a longer piece, or it might happen that they just peck you in the finger.

Keramoti beach

The ferry sails around a long sandy promontory where there is a campsite and a free beach.

Thasopoula islet

Next, the ferry passes the uninhabited island of Thasopoula, whose three peaks rise almost a hundred meters above sea level

We are finally approaching the beautiful and mountainous island of Thassos. The entire cruise usually takes no more than 40 minutes.
