Or a walk through the Albufera des Grau nature reserve

The nature reserve covers 5,000 hectares in the northeast of Menorca, close to the town of Es Grau. It is the core of the biosphere reserve for which Menorca was declared by UNESCO in 1993. It is a set of lakes and wetlands with rare fauna and flora. The nature reserve is also an important ornithological site.
Set of lakes
The nature reserve is easily accessible via a marked path, the beginning of which is located a few tens of meters after the end of the village of Es Grau. As soon as we enter, we are treated to a pleasant view of a series of lakes in which fresh and salt water mix.

Through the wetlands
From the marked path, you can branch off to a small circuit of wetlands with covered walkways. Here you can then admire the unique flora that tolerates both fresh water and an increased amount of salt.

Use
From the information boards, we also learn about the history of the use of this unique place, i.e. that the ponds were originally used as flower beds.

Lookout point
From the attic walkway, you can turn and climb to a lookout point, where there is a pleasant place to sit, an educational board and drawings of the birds that live here, which can be observed.

View
From the lookout there is a wonderful view of the largest of the Albufera lakes.

Bird watching
Some of the lakes are partially or completely dry in the summer. However, it is precisely on these that a large number of birds congregate. From a distance, you can observe here various types of wading birds or, for example, raptors.

Turtles
After we leave the boardwalk and find ourselves back on the sandy road, we are surprised by a group of land turtles feeding right in the middle of the road. Some of them were so friendly that they allowed themselves not only to be photographed, but also petted or fed.

Beach
The walk through the nature reserve ends at the local Platja es Grau beach, which directly invites you to swim, both because of its cleanliness and shallow depth, as well as the minimal number of people. A separate article will be devoted to the beach in Es Grau.
