Or the lesser-known beach of the northern part of the island
Cala Mesquida is located very close to the small resort of Sa Mesquida. Even though Mesquida is located near the capital Mahon, it is a remote resort. The beach is sandy, bordered on one side by a rocky outcrop.
Road to the beach
Cala Mesquida bay is very picturesque. In history, it was guarded by the small fortress of Torre de Mesquida.
View of the bay
There is a parking lot by the beach. Since the number of parking spaces here is very limited and the resort of Sa Mesquida is not very big, the beach is less frequented. In other words, it is not overcrowded. From the parking lot to the beach it is then about 200 meters along a nice path.
Insights from the beach
The beach surprised us with two things. The first was the sand here, which was extremely hot. We have not encountered such hot sand on any other beach. The reason is the composition of the local rocks, as the sand is yellow with an admixture of black grains. The second thing is the bottom of the beach. Although the beach is sandy, slightly rocky in places, once you enter the water, most of the bottom is a smooth stone surface. The entry here is gradual, but the depth increases faster than on other Menorca beaches. Swimming here is pleasant just because of the small number of people.
