The Belianske Tatras deviate from what we know from the High Tatras – instead of granite peaks, we find white limestone rocks and a slightly lower and more rounded ridge is covered by lush green meadows. Although the main ridge of Belianky, as this part of the Tatras is abbreviated, has been closed since 1978, wonderful expeditions can still be undertaken here along marked routes. The main reason is the protection of rare species of flora and fauna and the natural environment of this part of the NP. Since 1993, an educational trail through the Monkova dolina valley has been accessible, which connects the distinctive village of Ždiar with Široký sedlo and Kopský sedlo. The mountain range is an important karst area. From the number of caves, the Belianská Cave above the settlement of Tatranská Kotlina is accessible to tourists.

Day 1: Tatranské Matliare - Zelené pleso

I like Belianky especially in autumn, when in the case of a clear October day, there can be no better place for photography for a photographer and a more beautiful place for lovers to enjoy. There are a lot of rowans growing here, and if their leaves haven't frozen and fallen yet, there are amazingly colorful scenery. My favorite route starts at the blue tourist sign in Tatranské Matliary and continues through the valley of Kežmarok's White Water to the Great White Ball. After descending to Brnčálka (Chata pri Zelenom plese) you can go to Jahňací štít (2,229 m). It is not far and in the afternoon there are less people. Returning with the sunset, with a view of Lomničák with chamois behind it, will be your reward.

Queens of autumn - rowanberries

From Tatranské Matliare we follow the blue sign through the valley of Kežmarok's White Water. At the Sage Spring we stay on the blue markings and get to the rowan forest. In addition to minor advantages, this route also has one big one – you will get rid of the crowd of tourists who go to Brnčálka along the yellow road in the easiest way. Blue will reward you indefinitely with beautiful views for this decision.

here I would like to point out for the first time the bad Czech pronunciation of the name of this mountain, which directly tears my ears – no, it's really not a LAMB shield :)

and also a nice place to rest after the climb

White dance

if you did not have a snack at the previous, almost deserted place in the grass, you have the opportunity to fix it at this crossroads, where tourists coming from Ždiar or from Brnčálka meet

It is a very photogenic peak reflected in the Green Ball.

the road to Jahňací štít starts at the yellow tourist sign directly behind the cottage. The end of the ascent is a bit exposed, secured with chains, and I also met people there who were causing them problems. But according to their shoes, I think it was probably their first mountain hike.

Mountain chamois

The mountain chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is a species of wild mountain goat and these Belians are really used to tourists.

Day 2: Zelené pleso - Kopské sedlo - Ždiar

We cross the main part of the grassy ridge of the Belianske Tatras and descend through the Monkova valley to Ždiar by bus. The whole tour does not take more than 5 hours.

in the morning sun we leave the cottage and set off on a pleasant journey through Široká and Vyšné Kopské sedlo to Ždiar

Ždiar fork, 2141 m above sea level

we are close to Kopský sedlo, which is dominated by Ždiarska vidla (2141m), which, however, is forbidden to enter due to nature protection reasons. Ždiarska vidla forms a literally inseparable pair with the neighboring Havran, a kind of Siamese twins of the Belianske Tatras inseparably belonging to each other. Both peaks stand out when viewed from all over the world.

We say goodbye to the view of Žiarská vidlo and Havran

There is only a long descent from the saddle, sometimes very steep, but there is no other way to get to Ždiar.
