Just ninety meters above the Stelvio pass is a lookout and a restaurant in one – Rifugio Garibaldi (2,845 m above sea level). Almost everyone who is in no hurry gets out of the pass and enjoys the views. You can then continue along the ridge to the saddle below Punta Rosa or climb it.

Directly from the pass, go straight up along the zigzag. After a while, the crowds below you and the mountain panoramas will become nicer and nicer.

Views from Rifugio Garibaldi

After a few minutes of ascent you are at the restaurant Rifugio Garibaldi. The view is great. Passo Stelvio below you. On the far right you can see the gravel road leading to the Passo delle Partigliole (2,908 m above sea level) from where cyclists can go all the way to the Ortlerhaus and tourists ascend to Scorluzzo. The road at the bottom left leads again to the Tibet restaurant with classic road views.

Footpath to the Umbrail pass

The whole following tour leads along the state border of Italy – Switzerland, so you will come across border bollards. From Garibaldi, a hiking trail leads to the Umbrail Pass.

If you go here at the beginning of summer, count on snow cover. The surroundings are relatively flat.

The destinations of the tour from Rifugio Garibaldi

If you are pressed for time, the goal of the tour can be a large bollard, about a kilometer away from Rifugio Garibaldi. Of course, a much better goal is to climb to the very top of Punta Rosa.
