Ascent to Hvozd from Krompach
Climbing one of the highest hills of the Lusatian Mountains
Hvozd (749m) is one of the highest peaks of the Lusatian Mountains. In addition, it offers a nice view, especially to the south. There are a number of routes to the top, but the most famous one is from the village of Krompach, located just a short distance from the border with Germany. The peak is only 2.5km away with an elevation of 260m.
Krompach
Right in the center of Krompach you will find a small parking lot where you can park for free. Even the drive to Krompach will give you the feeling that you are almost going to the edge of the world. You will also find several historical buildings here. We will set off on the red hiking trail straight up the hill.
Rock staircase
The path first climbs between cottages, then goes around a meadow and for a while follows the contour line through the forest. Finally, the real climb begins straight up along a beautiful stone staircase leading directly along the Czech-German border.
First views
Finally, the first views are starting to open, although a bit spoiled by the summer haze. In front of us, we can see Tlustec (591m) and the higher Rálsko (698m)

Finally we are at the top, where the Hochwaldbaude mountain chalet stands and there is a viewing terrace. This is probably the most beautiful, panoramic view of the Lusatian Mountains.

The next destination is just a short distance away – the Hochwald peak with a lookout tower, already entirely in Germany.
