The best-preserved castle in the Aït Bouguemez valley

Above the village of Timit is the best preserved castle in the Aït Bouguemez valley. For this reason, travel agencies also stop here, so it is one of the places where you will probably not be completely alone. Even so, you will have to climb a nice hill (some „tourists“ let themselves be carried up it by a donkey). The fortress itself has been renovated and there is a small museum in it – admission is voluntary. From the roof there is a wonderful view of the surroundings.
Under the fortress
The fortress is located right next to the village of Timit. There are two roads leading to it, which connect in a small pass. The main road goes around the hill from the south and there is about 1.3 km between the two exits, so the path used by the locals leads over the small saddle and is only 800 meters long. This way you save half a kilometer, but you have to climb 75 meters in altitude. There is a transmitter in the pass and there are also locals who want to sell something.

Staircase to the fortress
From the pass, a winding path leads upwards, partly along newly built stone steps. The views become more beautiful with every meter.

View of Timit
There is a nice view of the village of Timit, the starting point of the walk. You can see both the main road going around the hill and the gravel road leading to the pass.

Valley view
From the top of the kipca there is a magnificent view westwards over the Aït Bouguemez valley

View of the High Atlas ridge
To the south, the ridge of the High Atlas can be seen, still with remnants of snow in the spring.

View of Tabant
To the east there is a view of the end of the valley with the town of Tabant.

Looking down
Directly below us, we can see the second exit to the fortress, located at the junction of the gravel road and the asphalt road.

Agadir Sidi Moussa Fortress
And now to the fortress itself – it is beautifully renovated, so you can get a perfect idea of what it used to look like. It doesn't seem like it, but it is quite large with the possibility of climbing to the flat roof

In the fortress
You can move freely around the fortress and explore various dark corners. It is also possible to climb to the roof and enjoy the views again.

Refreshments in the fortress
The fort not only has a small museum, but also refreshments. Moroccan tea is always a good way to refresh yourself.

View from the other side
After visiting the fortress, you must return to the pass by the same route. If you continue on the other side from where you came, you will see the fortress from a different angle. The end of the path is again at the road.
