Zvíkov Castle can be found in a very tactical place, on a rocky promontory above the confluence of the Vltava and Otava rivers. It is now part of the Orlická dam. The castle has an interesting history, it was founded by the famous King Přemysl Otakar I. Now it is a very popular monument with a typical tower in a really beautiful place

The first look at Zvíkov

If you want to visit Zvíkov Castle, you must first get to the town of Zvíkovské Podhradí, located at the crossroads of a second-class road. The nearest larger town is Písek. After passing the town, you will reach a large paid parking lot, from where it is about half a kilometer along the asphalt road to the castle gate. The first view is of the typical castle tower – Hláska

In the places where the blue hiking trail joins, climb the rocky promontory and enjoy the views not only of the Orlík dam, but also of the castle from a slightly different angle. Then go through the gate inside the castle

In Zvíkov Castle

The castle is much larger than it seems from a distance. In addition, there are several views of the Orlická dam. As with all castles, it is good to be open or late in the afternoon, when there are no crowds of other visitors

View of the Otava

Otava might seem like a good river from Zvíkov, but it is of course due to the fact that we are still on the Orlická dam and the water level is really significantly higher than in the old days.

Boat trips

If you run down the whole area of the castle, you will get directly to the confluence of the Otava and Vltava rivers. There is a dock on the boat line, which you can take to the castle Orlík
