Ascent to the Milada lookout tower
Lookout tower above Solenická podková
Not far from the Orlík dam you will find the Krchov hill (489 m above sea level) and on its hill a nice Milada lookout tower with an even nicer view of the green hills around the Vltava. The lookout tower actually stands above the famous Solenická podková and with good visibility you also have the Šumava peaks in your palm.
The way to the lookout tower
The starting point to the lookout tower is from the settlement of Přední Chlum, where you can get along a very narrow road which is just a short walk from the dam of the Orlík dam. Just a few meters behind the village is a small parking lot (free) and from there it is only a few tens of meters to the lookout tower
At the Milada lookout tower
The lookout tower is only less than 300 meters (uphill), so a suitable stop for smaller children. The lookout tower is only two years old and the entrance is 50 CZK (you can also buy cold drinks here)

Of course, from here it's not the famous view of Solenice Horseshoe, but it's also nice

To the north (from east to west) below you is a beautiful Vltava valley with meadows and wooded hills rising sharply above the river

To the south, the Orlická dam and the Šumava hills, including Boubín on the horizon, dominate. To the southeast is the Vlašim Uplands
