The Solenická podkova lookout is probably the second most famous view of the Vltava (after the May lookout). The place is really breathtaking – the meander of the Vltava is really perfect here. You can get to the lookout from three possible starting points. From Solenice, from Zduchovice or from Větrov. Please note that none of these routes are marked, online maps and gps are ideal

The road from Větrov to Solenická podkov is the longest of the possible variants, approx. 2.5 km in one direction. On the other hand, in contrast to the shortest variant from Solenice, a comfortable path awaits you, as opposed to a steep hike 200 meters upwards. A small car park can be found at the end of the village at the bus stop

The road to the horseshoe

In front of you are wooded steep slopes, which are traversed by a comfortable wide forest path while bypassing a small valley of the stream

The road here is not the destination

On the way to Solenická podkov, there is probably nothing to attract people, perhaps just blooming wild roses. At the very end of the road, watch the map carefully so that you do not cross the paths steeply descending to the lookout rock

However, the final outlook is really worth it! So sit on the rock and enjoy. The Orlík dam and the super Milada lookout tower can also be seen on the horizon

View of Solenice

From this perspective, it is clear that the road from Solenice is the shortest but the most challenging

Steep slopes above the Vltava

In the Middle Ages, this beautiful area must have been quite difficult to pass through – no bridges and steep rock walls above the Vltava everywhere
