A tour of the historic center of Žatec
Visit to the city of hops
Almost every tour of Žatec begins in its historic center, located around Freedom Square. The dominant feature is the high town hall tower and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, located a little further on. There is also a brewery and a large synagogue.
Libočanská goal
The entrance to the historical center of Žatec is possible from several directions. However, the one that leads through the Libočanská gate – the tower above the original fortifications of the town – is interesting.
Holy Trinity Column
The first monument you will come across here is a huge column of the Holy Trinity. A classic memory of terrible plague.

From the plague column continue around the town hall to the narrow Hoštálkovo náměstí with a nice view of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Priest's Gate in Žatec
Right opposite the church is the picturesque Priest's Gate – another of the alternative entrances to the city center.
Žatec Brewery
The historical center is closed in the north by the Žatec brewery – a town where beer is at home.
Hop garden in Žatec
Go back to the town hall, next to which is a small stylish hop garden.
Zatec Synagogue
It is only a short distance from the hop garden to the large synagogue in Žatec. Those interested can also go on a tour here.
Ascent to the town hall tower
Before leaving the historic center, get off at the local town hall tower. You must arrange a tour at the city information center – because it is always accompanied.

After visiting the town hall tower, head south to another attraction of the city – the beer lighthouse. In addition, along the way you will have probably the most beautiful view of the square.
