The limestone quarry is indeed an impressive hole, one of the largest in Europe. It was established gradually over the decades, people intensively experienced the landscape since the 1990s due to the need for limestone. The Devil's Stairs, as a grand quarry, was created, technically speaking, only by the gradual connection of smaller quarries in the second half of the 20th century. And it is an irony of fate that the beautiful Koněprusy caves were discovered for our age in 1950 thanks to wall blasting.
