An agglomeration in North Africa, which today has a total of around 2.5 million inhabitants. The previous place was called Carthage, which was razed to the ground by the Romans. Then several more settlements were established here, until the 7th century, when the Arabs settled. Since 1956, when independence from France was declared, Tunis has been the capital of the state of Tunisia.
