The national park with an area of 293,168 ha was declared in 1993. Rare minerals have been mined in its territory for over 100 years. Some parts of the park are permanently inhabited by pastoralists who maintain their herds in the peripheral zones. Thanks to the beautiful landscape and proximity to the capital, the NP is one of the most visited places in Mongolia. In summer, there are many opportunities for hiking, climbing, swimming, rafting, horseback riding or bird watching. In winter it is possible to try skating on frozen rivers.
