Thermal baths in the middle of desolate mountains
In the middle of the desolate Khangai Mountains, about 50 km northeast of the town of Bayankhongor (Баянхонгор), hot water springs from the ground. Local pastoralists have been using its healing effects for centuries, so a small spa town called utаргалжуут / Shargaljuut has sprung up around the springs.
Access to sources
The spring area with most of the springs is on the opposite bank to the city. Both banks are connected by a small bridge with a kind of colonnade.
The border of the spring area is visibly fenced, which is, of course, so that cattle do not climb here, which would nicely mess up the springs and all the water …
Between the springs
The whole area is freely accessible to anyone. And although there are numerous footpaths and wooden planks, there is a visitor to be careful where he steps.
Some springs are captured by boreholes and piped into the valley.
Numerous springs are left free to flow and water flows freely from the ground, travels further up the slope and eventually flows into the river.
Source No. 14
The individual sources are numbered and usually state what they are treated with. But only for those who can handle Mongolian …
The temperature of individual springs is different, which is mainly due to the depth from which the water travels and how much time it has to cool down. The warmest springs have up to 95 ° C.
The water is also collected directly on the slope and distributed to small cottages, where you can undergo a therapeutic thermal crust. What about the fact that it's all the same water, which differs only in its temperature.
Here and there the pipes crack and then it hisses and bubbles everywhere.
In the center of town there is a fairly luxurious spa house.
Living according to taste
But many people prefer chats or classic gers.
