Easily accessible sand dunes
About 250 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar lies the dune field Elsen Tasarkhai, which is relatively small in Mongolian conditions. It stretches in a 5 km narrow lane about 80 km to the north and south, and thanks to the road that crosses it across, it is an easily accessible destination for travelers heading to western Mongolia. They are part of the Khögno Tarna National Park (өгнө Тарна).
Tourist attraction
The dunes are so easily accessible that it is basically impossible to meet anyone here. Someone stops for just a few minutes simply because it's a pleasant distraction on a long and monotonous steppe journey.
Terrains to the dunes
They are carefully prepared for tourists, and before one looks around, two-humped camels are rushing towards him, ready for a trip to the dunes.
Horses in the dunes
The dune field is so narrow that water stays in the shallow depressions between the dunes. It is not uncommon to meet horses grazing here. One would have to go further north into the truly desolate dunes.
Binec of all kinds
At the edge of the dune fields, you don't have to wonder what all the sand hides …
Dunes
Even those who do not go to the dunes with a guide and on the back of a camel can find their small photogenic nooks here.
