Mont Blanc (the Italian Monte Bianco, translated as White Mountain, 4,810m above sea level) is traditionally considered Europe's highest peak, but due to the inconsistent methodology for accurately determining the Euro-Asian border, this title is also attributed to the Elbrus Caucasus Mount (5,642m). First ascent was on the 8th of August 1786 by Frenchmen Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard.
